History
Standing on the borders of the Indre and Creuse departments, on the fringes of the old Marche region, Château du Plaix-Joliet belongs to the family of rural fortresses that once guarded the roads and seigneurial lands of deep Berry. Its austere, determined architecture reflects an era when the boundary between noble residence and defensive structure was merely a matter of ambition. Visitors are immediately struck by the entrance structure: a main building flanked by watch-towers at the corners, topped by a machicolation forming a covered walkway, the parapet of which is adorned with unexpectedly fine three-lobed arches. This decorative detail, almost Gothic in its refinement, contrasts with the massiveness of the whole and reveals the ambition of a patron concerned with prestige as much as protection.
