You first enter a barrel-vaulted room with an almost abbey-like atmosphere, before moving on to the millstone room, which is intersected by an intermediate wooden floor - a vestige of the way the daily work was organised. A vaulted passageway leads out onto the terrace, offering an uninterrupted view of the wine-growing hillsides that have long been the basis of the mill's activity. The miller's dwelling, adjoining the building, is a reminder that this place was first and foremost a home, a domestic economy, a life. Its silhouette takes the form of a truncated cone, both squat and slender, with light limestone walls that flare out slightly towards the base to anchor the building firmly to the hillside. The interior layout bears witness to sophisticated vernacular engineering. The first entrance is a sober, functional barrel-vaulted room that serves as an antechamber and links up with the miller's living quarters. The milling room, the technical heart of the building, is topped by a stone dome whose geometric regularity commands admiration: an intermediate wooden floor cuts through this space to optimise the use of the different work levels. The framework, characteristic of the mill-caviers, is set into the masonry at the top, forming a unique structural system in which wood and stone complement each other. A vaulted passageway built into the thickness of the walls provides access to the upper terrace, an essential space for manoeuvring the wings according to the prevailing wind. The adjoining dwelling, divided into two lower rooms, illustrates the model of the Touraine mill-farm, where domestic life and productive activity coexisted in a small but perfectly organised space. The materials used - tuffeau for the walls, flat tiles or limestone lava for the roofing of the annexes - are in keeping with the building traditions of the Loire Valley region.
