In the heart of Tarascon, a Provencal town marked by the tutelary silhouette of King René's castle, the Hôtel de Mauléon - also known as the Hôtel Charles de Raoulx - stands out as one of the rare examples of aristocratic civil architecture in the region, halfway between late Gothic and the classicism of the Grand Siècle. Listed as a Historic Monument in 1995, it is an eloquent illustration of the way in which the great families of Provence adapted and embellished their homes over the generations. What makes this mansion truly unique is the layering of its different eras: born in the 15th century, enlarged and extensively remodelled in the second half of the 17th century, then touched up again in the 18th century, it constitutes an architectural palimpsest of rare legibility.
