The building weaves two distinct eras into a single body of stone: the Romanesque rigour of its medieval origins and the flamboyant, then Renaissance grace that characterises the 16th-century alterations. Far from being a spectacular monument, Saint-Martin belongs to that precious category of rural churches in Gironde which, in their apparent modesty, condense several centuries of popular faith and building skills.
